Bioprocessing Scale-up

This two-day hands-on training introduces trainees to bioprocessing from upstream to downstream. Working in the BioZone labs, participants gain practical experience with laboratory and pilot scale bioreactors, harvesting and centrifugation, cell lysis, and tangential flow filtration.

01 — Schedule

2-day training agenda

Day 1 — Bioreactors & Harvesting

  • Introduction and safety briefing
  • Small scale bioreactors: components, assembly, autoclave prep, and probe calibration
  • Pilot scale bioreactors: fermentation prep and in situ sterilization
  • Hands-on culture: sampling, cell density, and dissolved oxygen
  • Harvesting and centrifugation: batch vs continuous, disc-stack centrifuge
  • Cell lysis and microfluidizer operation

Day 2 — Filtration & BioZone Tour

  • Introduction to filtration in downstream operations
  • Tangential Flow Filtration: principles and system components
  • Monitoring parameters: flow rate, flux, and TMP
  • TFF concentration process demonstration
  • Guided tour of the BioZone labs
  • Discussion and reflection
